PROJECT DEPICTION

Title graphics and closing credits design for the 2017 film Tom of Finland. Award-winning filmmaker Dome Karukoski brings to screen the life and work of one of the most influential and celebrated figures of twentieth century gay culture.

Touko Laaksonen, best known by his pseudonym Tom of Finland, was a Finnish artist known for his stylized highly masculinized gay art, and his influence on late twentieth century gay culture. He has been called the “most influential creator of gay pornographic images”. Over the course of four decades, he produced some 3500 illustrations. The trustee of The Judith Rothschild Foundation, Harvey S. Shipley Miller, said, “Tom of Finland is one of the five most influential artists of the twentieth century. As an artist he was superb, as an influence he was transcendent.”
